Forced Respect

NY Senate passed a bill that makes it a crime to not offer your respect to a cop? What the hell???
This bill - s2402, would make it a crime to be disrespectful and not offer assistance to a cop, punishable by 4 years in prison.  This is insane. At a time when the police force has become little more than thugs who get a commission based on the tickets they write out, this insanity gets thrown into the face of every citizen.

I remember when I was a teenager going to a rock concert and on the way there, I met a rookie cop who didn't like something about how I was dressed. As I walked by, the guy yelled insults trying to provoke me to talk back to him. The older cops stood by an snickered.

I am sure that some cops are descent people but there are also immature assholes among them.  How could a legislative body not see that this bill - s2402, would be an instrument of abuse by such cops? Below is a quote from the creator of this anti-American garbage, state senator Joe Griffo. A fucking Republican.

"This is a necessary action because we can see from the rise in incidents that too many people in our society have lost the respect they need to have for a police officer. We need to make it very clear that when a police officer is performing his duty, every citizen needs to comply and that refusal to comply carries a penalty.”
